A class action lawsuit was filed in January 2020 in New Hampshire revealing allegations of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse at the Sununu Youth Services Center between 1982 and 2014. Victims were between the ages of 11 and 17 at the time of the alleged abuse.
“These horrific acts of abuse were perpetrated by the very individuals who were legally responsible for providing protection, care, guidance, rehabilitative, educational and other services to children who had been committed to YDC,” the lawsuit claims. Furthermore, plaintiffs state that staff and administrators were aware of the abuse, yet endeavored to hide it from the public.
Since July 2019, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office has been investigating abuse allegations at the Sununu Center and of the personnel employed at that agency. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
